OrangeMWC 2023

Introduction to Orange MWC

The 5G+ technology from Orange enabled the development of this virtual reality project for standalone devices, specifically Meta Quest 2, which was presented at the 2023 Mobile World Congress. A dancer, equipped with a motion capture suit, guided four users simultaneously through an immersive experience.

My Role and Responsibilities

I started by integrating the assets created by the art team and proposed how to configure the scene elements to allow for easy and flexible content iteration. I was responsible for profiling and optimizing the application. It’s important to note that this experience involved a total of six users connected simultaneously: four users viewing the experience, one user acting as a DJ interacting with the experience, and a dancer. The dancer used a motion capture suit to move a virtual avatar in real-time, while a sequence of events played out to present the content of the experience.

My responsibilities included configuring various settings to improve the experience’s performance. Additionally, I developed custom shaders according to the creative director’s guidelines. The environment constantly evolved—objects appeared and disappeared, VFX were triggered, and new characters entered the scene—requiring custom shaders that aligned with the intended visual style while enabling smooth control over the transitions during the experience.

I was also responsible for creating various VFX, using both the Shuriken particle system and VFX Graph, and for designing different textures using Substance Designer and Photoshop. As we refined the content, I managed the compilation of the application and updated the distribution channels via the Meta Quest Developer Hub. This ongoing iteration allowed us to enhance the content and deliver the best version that was ultimately showcased.
